We have a few eagles that live in the neighboring woods, yes, bald eagles. I don’t see them often, but each day that I do, is a memorable day! Somehow they find that headwind and just soar with little effort with majestic style. Thus the expression to ‘soar like eagles!’
Just as it is the desire of every artist to find that ‘headwind’ and be free to soar as they create their new piece.
Or to just be free to express life and freedom in the chords and notes of a song.
We so yearn to ‘soar like eagles’ so to speak, but so often we spend our every waking moment of our day flapping our wings 100miles an hour like a hummingbird.
And actually God is holding a giant red sign in front of our faces that says in all caps “STOP”.
But most just flutter past, but for those that choose to STOP and just for a short amount of time choose to listen, here is what they hear:
“Be still, and know that I am God;” (Ps. 46:10),
“Those who wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” (Is. 40:31)
“He makes me to lie down in green pastures and leads me beside the still waters… surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life…”(Ps. 23)
Sometimes though, the only way God can get us to stop fluttering by His big red sign is He allows something that we call ‘bad’ to happen. But He knows that even though it looks ‘bad’ on the outside, only He can make it all work out for good- and the best thing of all, is He is there.
And if we ask, He even ‘breathes’ new life in us and does a work, much like an artist, ‘indescribable’ in us, and He teaches us how to soar, how to soar like an eagle.
