How do we become a happy or ‘blessed’ nation? Does anyone know? We have lots of questions, God’s word has many answers in Ps. 33.
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD.”
Question: Who is this LORD? We might ask.
Ps.33:6,7: “By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deep in storehouses.”
Question: O.K.,so we can see He is big and powerful, even the waves and the sea hear Him and respond- but what about the nations on earth, what about them?
Ps. 33: 10,11: “The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. The counsel of the LORD stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations.”
Question: But does He really know what’s going on?
Ps. 33:13,15: “The LORD looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men. From the place of His habitation He looks On all the inhabitants of the earth; He fashions their hearts individually; He considers all their works.”
Question: But this world is a frightening place, we need protection. Can we trust Him?
Ps. 33: 16-19: “No king is saved by the multitude of an army; A mighty man is not delivered by great strength. A horse is a vain hope for safety; Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength.Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, On those who hope in His mercy, To deliver their soul from death, And to keep them alive in famine.”
Question: What should we do now?
Ps.33: 20-22: “Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, Because we have trusted in His holy name. Let Your mercy, O LORD, be upon us, Just as we hope in You.”
My conclusion: We all have the Lord’s prayer memorized, perhaps Ps. 33: 20-22 should become our nations’s prayer: “LORD, our soul waits for You. You are our help and our shield. Our hearts shall rejoice in You, Because we have trusted in Your holy name. Let Your mercy, O LORD, be upon us, Just as we hope in You.”
